In the days that followed, it would be uncovered that more than 50 million individual user records may have been exposed. T-Mobile revealed the hack on Thursday, saying that the unauthorized API access by the attacker dates back to November 25, 2022. T-Mobile Data Breach On Monday, August 16, T-Mobile issued a public statement stating that unauthorized access to some of their user data had occurred. And for the meantime, Mint Mobile has not yet responded to the report. T-Mobile has been suffering from data breaches since 2018, and this time 37 million accounts were affected. It is unknown whether this was a targeted attack especially since it involved the same app. Google Fi, a virtual network that primarily uses T-Mobile’s infrastructure, earlier this week notified some customers their personal data was also compromised as a result of the attack. There is even one customer who claims that the attacker stole $15,000 worth of cryptocurrency from his app. The latest incident marks T-Mobile’s eighth publicly acknowledged data breach since 2018, and damage is spreading. These customers lost their cell connection and started to receive a notification that their Coinbase account was compromised. While this specific Google Fi customer is the only one (so far) we know of, there are several others who encountered the same issue on Mint Mobile.Īs revealed by 9to5Google, there are at least five Mint Mobile customers who shared their experience on Reddit. Fortunately, this customer was able to retrieve his accounts without any losses.

The phone number of the Google Fi customer was momentarily transferred to an attacker, who was able to make password reset requests specifically for a crypto wallet app called Coinbase. It was already reported that at least one user on Google Fi encountered a security breach that wasn’t the same as what others experienced. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for some customers of its MVNO partners. The Un-carrier said that the breach compromised 37 million accounts but assured that “no financial information was stolen”. Back in January, T-Mobile revealed to its customers that it encountered a security breach during the first week of the month.
